The Turkish energy company Karadeniz Holding announced today that it will send two specials built shipswhich can each accommodate 1,500 people, to help earthquake victims in the southern Turkish province of Hatay, which was hit by the devastating earthquake that left more than 20,000 dead.
“The company is cooperating with the authorities to send the rescue ships Suheyla Sultan and Rauf Bey to the city of Iskenderun (Alexandretta) in the province Hatay“, says the company and adds that this will be its first humanitarian mission.
These ships are specially built for humanitarian aid missions, they have rooms, refrigerators, televisions and a heating system, while they also provide education, health care and feeding services, as the company said.
“We have focused all our energy on this project to serve the residents in the affected areas. We aim to provide them with a safe haven as soon as possible,” the statement said.
The earthquake left hundreds of thousands homeless in ten provinces of southeastern Turkey, with many sleeping in tents and cars in freezing temperatures.
