Ukrainian forces are holding defenses along the front line in Donetsk, with the heaviest fighting raging for the towns of Volendar and Marinka, Kiev’s top military commander said

THE Yevgeny Prigozhinfounder of the Russian mercenary organization Wagner, said today that her men had captured the village Krasna Horalocated north of the city Bahamut in the province Donetsk, Ukraine, although as Reuters reports, his top military commander Kiev says Ukraine is on the defensive as fighting rages in the Donetsk region.

Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine, has been the scene of fierce fighting for months. The head of the Ukrainian army, General Valery Zaluzny, said on Saturday that Ukraine still controls Bakhmut and is trying to “stabilize” the front line around it.

In an audio message posted on his Telegram account today, Prigozhin said: “Today the settlement of Krasna Hora was captured after the attack of the troops of the private military company Wagner.”

Prigozhin also released video which appears to show Wagner fighters in front of the sign at the entrance to Krasna Hora.

In his message, Prigozhin pointed out that only Wagner’s mercenary troops are fighting “within a radius of about 50 kilometers” around Bakhmut and, if the city is captured, it will be by the organization’s fighters.

On Friday, Prigozhin said in an interview that Wagner’s forces must capture Bakhmut to advance, but are facing stiff resistance from Ukrainian forces.

He had also estimated that Moscow would need two years to fully control the two eastern Ukrainian provinces — Donetsk and Luhansk — the conquest of which has been presented by Russia as the main goal of the war.
