The Syrian president made his first visit on Friday to an area hit by the deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey that has killed thousands of people in his country.

Aleppo province has so far counted more than 400 dead and 1,000 injured, according to the Ministry of Health.
Today, December 12, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad thanked the United Arab Emirates for the “enormous humanitarian aid” provided to his country after the devastating earthquake, while receiving the head of the UAE’s diplomacy, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
“The UAE was among the first countries to stand by Syria and send massive humanitarian aid,” Assad said in a statement issued by the presidency, hailing their “quick response, which reflects the depth of bilateral relations.”
