The assurance that he will do everything to meet the expectations of the Cypriot people was given by the elected President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis
In his first statements, after his election to the highest office of the Republic, Mr. Christodoulidis emphasized that the current state of affairs cannot be a solution to the Cyprus problem and that “the solution of the Cyprus problem is for me the highest priority”. He referred to the talks he had with leaders of states and institutions, noting that his first visit abroad will be to Greece.
He also announced meetings with the leaders of the political parties to form a government of broad social acceptance.
“The Cypriot people have spoken, tomorrow is a new day and what I have mentioned in the pre-election, this is also my promise to the Cypriot people,” the elected President of the Republic told reporters as he left his political office.
“I will do everything not only to meet the expectations of the Cypriot people, but through a combination of forces, and you know in the next few days I will ask to see all the party leaders for the formation of a government of broad social acceptance.”
The elected President of the Republic mentioned that he will speak with them and exchange views with them and added: “You understand that the final decisions are up to me, but we will work together for, I repeat, a government of broad social acceptance so that we can respond clearly better to the society’s expectations”.
“Because at the end of the day”, he said, “the main issue for me – and I’m sure for everyone – is to meet the expectations of the Cypriot people, we have many challenges ahead of us, challenges which only if we work together we will face successfully” .
When asked when the processes for the preparation of the Council of Ministers will begin, Mr. Christodoulidis emphasized that this is the “first top political act”, adding that the contacts will start from tomorrow.
“As I mentioned before during the election campaign, I now have specific thoughts, these thoughts I will share with all those who are affected and as expected we will be ready to announce our Cabinet”, he added.
