A couple Polish-British, who were already parents of seven children, they got another… five, who came to life just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The mother, Dominika Clark, gave birth to quintuplets on Sunday at a hospital in Krakow, southern Poland. Dominika, who already has seven children aged 10 months to 12 years, said she is feeling “better than she expected” after the difficult pregnancy.

“We wanted to have an eighth child but it turned out to be more”she told reporters, flanked by her British husband, Vince.

The babies were delivered by caesarean section at 29 weeks gestation and had to be put on a ventilator. “We hope that we will get to the happy ending, that they will be discharged,” said Richard Lauterbach, the head of the hospital’s neonatal unit.

Dominica Clark described her multiple pregnancy as a “miracle” after the hospital said the chances of having quintuplets are 1 in 52 million. “Being a mathematician as well, I like these statistics. We had a better chance of winning the lottery than having a bunch of babies,” joked the mother of many.
