The truck driver who ran over bicyclists and pedestrians in his attempt to escape from the police, yesterday Monday, in Brooklyn, New York, is on trial today.

Nine people were injured and one of them he breathed his last in the hospital. This is a 44-year-old man who was taken to hospital with serious brain injuries and the doctors were unable to save him.

In a video documentary broadcast by WABC-TV, part of the pursuit of the pickup truck by a police patrol car can be seen. A pedestrian escapes at the last moment before being swept away by the speeding vehicle.

Weng Shore rented the truck on February 1 from Florida and was due to deliver it next month, according to the New York Times.

The 62-year-old has been convicted of knife attacks in the past, while his relatives describe him as “schizophrenic”. He served 17 months in prison for stabbing his brother in 2015 in Las Vegas. He spent almost a year in prison for stabbing someone in a fight in 2020.

“He’s schizophrenic!” his brother-in-law, Darryl Singer, told the New York Post. “I’ve been saying for a long time that he will be killed one day,” he added.

Steven Shore, the 62-year-old’s son, told The Associated Press that his father suffers from serious mental disorders and is receiving medication.
