Discrete professor Iranian University, Said Madani Gafharohiheld since May 2022 in Tehran, was sentenced to prison eight years old, his lawyer told the French News Agency (AFP) today.

“My client was sentenced to eight years in prison for creating an enemy organization and one year for propaganda against the system,” said Mahmoud Behzadirad, clarifying that the verdict it is final.

Professor of Sociology at Alameh Tabatabai University in Tehran, Said Madani Gahfarohi, 62, was arrested in mid-May.

Because of the merging of the sentences, he will have to serve the maximum of eight years, his lawyer said.

THE Madani, who has published many works on social problems in Iran, mainly prostitution, violence against women, child abuse or drugs, he had been arrested many times and sentenced to six years in prison in 2012.

“Since my client has been in prison, he has been consulted by some officials to find ways to deal with the violence” in the protests that erupted after the death of Makhsa Amini in September, Behzadirad explained.

In early February, Madani he had published from prison a long analysis of the challenge movement, in which he saw “the vision of a future Iran”.

THE Islamic Republic released dozens of prominent figures in recent days as part of an amnesty granted by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the occasion of a national holiday.
