Canadian police have announced that they have ended their search for the flying object that was shot down about a week ago in the province of Yukon.

Although the area where the object is believed to have fallen was searched, authorities were unable to locate the debris, mainly due to the difficult weather conditions prevailing in the area.

Recent snowfall, reduced chances of finding the object and the belief that it is not connected “to any scenario that warrants intensive search efforts” led federal police to the decision to abandon the operation, it said in its statement.

On February 11, believing that aviation security was threatened, the US military, in cooperation with Canadian authorities, sent a fighter jet to destroy the unidentified object. On Friday evening, the US also announced it was ending its search for two other downed flying objects, one in Lake Huron and the other on the northern coast of Alaska. On Thursday, US President Joe Biden said that at this stage there was no indication that the two objects were linked to China’s spy balloon programme.
