In Thessaloniki, which the government has put in focus in the large project program it designed and is implementing, the Minister of Infrastructure-Transportation mentioned Kostas Karamanlis at the cutting of the king cake of ND Thessaloniki, where he was the main speaker.

As he characteristically said, in previous years, Thessaloniki did not get what was due to it, while now it enters the front line, with a package of investments in infrastructure projects that exceeds six billion euros. “The main line of the Metro is being completed at the end of 2023, despite the appeals and the raging war we received from the forces of regression. The extension to Kalamaria will be delivered six months after the basic line, while for the first time we are carefully and seriously planning the extensions to the west and the airport”, stressed Mr. Karamanlis.

The infrastructure minister also referred to the signing of the contract for the new Eastern Ring Road, the so-called Flyover, which starts soon and – as he said – solves the traffic problem, improves road safety levels and has a positive environmental footprint.

He also underlined that the modern road axes that were blocked for years, such as Thessaloniki – Edessa and Drama – Amfipoli, are moving forward, so that the road network and the connections with Egnatia are completed. “We are also investing in the modern train with great railway projects such as Thessaloniki-Kavala-Toxotes. In addition, the port is finally connected not only by rail, but also by road, since the connection of the 6th pier with PATHE and Egnatia is already in the final stage”, added Mr. Karamanlis.

The event was co-organized by the Steering Committee of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki and the two DEEP A’ and B’ Thessaloniki.
