Travel to its earthquake affected areas Turkey carried out by the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell.
As he reported in a video on social media from the ruins, he saw first hand the great devastation caused by the earthquake.
He noted the British support for Turkey. London sent a team of 77 rescuers to search the ruins, while we helped the relief effort with a total of £30m, £5m of which was double the amount raised from citizens by the Disasters Committee.
Mr. Mitchell visited also the field hospital that has been set up near the epicenter of the earthquake by the competent services of the British Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Health. This hospital treats about 1,400 wounded.
Yesterday I witnessed first-hand the scale of human suffering inflicted by these devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
We will continue providing life-saving support to people who need it most and helping them to begin to rebuild their lives. pic.twitter.com/78QNk4WDSk
