Three people have so far lost their lives from the new 6.4 Richter earthquake that occurred on the afternoon of Monday 2/20 in Turkey centered on Hatay.

The above was announced by the Minister of Interior Suleiman Soylu and reproduced by Anadolu Agency.

In addition, according to information from Anadolu, 213 people have been sent to hospitals.

One of the three dead was crushed while already trapped in debris from the first earthquake of 7.8 Richter, while a woman was killed when a stone fell on her head.

Investigations are ongoing for any trapped persons.

The new earthquake occurred at 20:04 (local time, 19:04 Greek time), shook the region and was felt in neighboring countries.

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake followed a little later, while the post-seismic sequence remains intense.

An AFP journalist earlier reported collapses of collapsing buildings and dramatic calls for help from residents.

The victims of today’s earthquakes add to the grim death toll from the February 6 earthquakes. More than 46,000 deaths have been confirmed in Turkey and Syria to date, a toll that is almost certain to rise.
