“Air” in Crete, Mars and hugs with the six!

The “yellows”, finding new protagonists, beat OFI 3-0 in the context of its 23rd matchday Stoiximan Super League, returning to winning ways after a month. The previous one was 4-0 against PAS in Ioannina and since then four consecutive defeats have followed. The 0-1 from Olympiakos in the Cup and the successive ones from AEK (3-0), Ionikos (1-0) and Panathinaikos (1-2).

The main protagonist was Rswho opened the scoring in the 10th minute, scoring his maiden goal with Aris in his first appearance in the starting line-up, while in the 30th minute he served the 0-2 in Darida after impressively emptying Vouros. This was the first goal of the Czech (who also had a crossbar in the 24th minute) with the team, while he found the net for the first time in this year’s championship Iturbewho “locked” the “double” in the 90′.

In the mind of the coaches

Dabrauskas lined up OFI with 3-5-1-1. Mandas was in goal, Vouros, Giannoulis and Torarison in defense. Larson (right) and Balogiannis (left) had the two sides, Meyado and Duce were in the midfield, with Bakic being further forward, while Toral flanked Diko.

Tolis Terzis lined up Aris with 4-3-3. Cuesta was in goal, Odubajo, Nkulu, Brambetz and Piersman in defence, Etembo, Darida and Rupp in the centre, Mateo Garcia and Palma in the “wings”, with Camara at the top.

The match

OFI started stronger in the match, having the initiative of the movements and the first good phase in the match. In the 4th minute, the ball reached Larsson, who stepped into the area, but his shot from a good position was off target. Aris then flipped the switch and dominated the pitch, with his dominance paying off and the home team for a considerable period… disappearing from the pitch.

The “yellows” made a three-minute fire with three classic opportunities and the third was also… poisonous. Kamara threatened twice (8′, 9′) but Mandas responded with equal numbers, but the same did not happen shortly after.

Mateo Garcia took a corner, Piersman got onto the ball and Rupp fired in from close range to make it 0-1. The hosts lost their concentration and their psychology and the visitors took advantage of this, dominating the pitch.

It is not only the two goals, which are of course the most important, but also their overall picture. Darida unleashed a volley in the 24th minute and the ball hit Manda’s crossbar. Every visit of Aris to the area (or near it) smelled like a goal.

Finally the 0-2 was made in the 30th minute. Etebo stole from Bakic, Mateo took and the Argentine crossed for Rupp who emptied Vouro and served to Darida who executed from close range.

OFI threatened after an hour in the 39th minute. He patiently built the offense with Larsson again treading territory, but his spin wasn’t ideal. Inevitably, Dabrauskas made changes after the break, putting Felipe and Tsilianidis instead of Diouce and Balogiannis, to leave the trio in defense to play more aggressively. The injury to the Brazilian forward spoiled the plans of the Lithuanian coach who, however, saw his team improve and he was partly vindicated for his choices. In the sense that he did not see the goal coming immediately.

From 55′ onwards, OFI started to find the opportunities, creating three phases in less than ten minutes, with the last one being huge. Diko (55′) and Mosquera (56′) found the opposing goalkeeper ready, while in 63′ lost the… unlost by the hosts. Meyado pressed and stole, but Mosquera managed to miss from inside the box.

In the final stretch, OFI played everything for everything to get back in the game for something good and missed the chance in the 79th minute. Bakic’s powerful shot sent Jeddy Koule into celebration, but the ball found the outside of the net.

Everything ended definitively in the 90’s with him Iturbe steal the ball, carry the ball many yards before executing Mandas.

MVP: Roop. Germanos stood out, who in his first appearance as a starter was the most influential player of Aris in the great victory over OFI. He had a goal (his first with the team) and an assist, which, in fact, came from an impressive dribble over Vouros.

Whistle: Diet was not an easy game. There were several instances where players from both teams tried to coax something out, necessitating a second look. The only phase that can be discussed is Etebo’s marking for which OFI requested a foul on Bakics before 0-2.
