National Security Council representative stated that the US “remain ready to meet with Russia” to New START, after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country was suspending its participation in the nuclear weapons treaty.

“We remain ready to meet with Russia to discuss the issues of the Treaty and nuclear stability, as demonstrated by our recent Security Council (P5) meeting, to reduce risk. As we’ve said before, no matter what else is going on in the world, the United States stands ready to pursue critical arms control measures,” a National Security Council spokesman said.

It is recalled that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated earlier today on CNN that this decision by Russia is “deeply unfortunate and irresponsible.”

“We remain ready to talk about strategic arms limitations at any time with Russia, regardless of what else is going on in the world or in our relationship. I think it’s important to continue to act responsibly in this area,” he added.
