The dead rose to eight from yesterday’s new earthquakes occurred on the Turkey-Syria border two weeks after the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 47,000 people.

Furthermore, 300 people are recovering in hospitals from injuries and over a dozen buildings collapsed on both sides of the border.

The new earthquake tremors caused new anxiety and panic among the residents of the affected areas who are trying to come to terms with their new life. Most of the injuries yesterday were caused when people jumped from structures in panic or fell as they fled over rubble and walls.

Millions of people who fled devastated cities in southern Turkey and northern Syria are now living in temporary shelters after their homes have been either completely destroyed or severely damaged. This fact resulted in the death toll from the two new earthquakes last night being relatively low.
