Francis: Violence against women offends God

by

Pope Francis used his New Year’s message on Saturday to sound the trumpet to put an end to violence against women, which he said offends God.

Francis “weaved” his New Year’s speech on the issues of motherhood and women – saying that they are the ones who hold the threads of life together – and took the opportunity to address one of the strongest appeals to date in order to put an end to violence against women.

“And since mothers give life, and women hold (together) the world, let us all make greater efforts to promote mothers and protect women,” said Francis.
“How much violence is directed against women! Enough! By hurting a woman we are offending God, who created humanity from a woman.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began almost two years ago, Francis has spoken openly many times about domestic violence, which has increased in many countries after locksmiths left many women trapped with abusive partners.
Public participation in the operation was lower than in previous years, due to COVID restrictions.

The 85-year-old Francis seemed to be in good condition today after an unexpected event yesterday, when he attended the service, but at the last moment he did not come forward as expected.

At the beginning of the service today in the basilica of St. Peter, the Pope walked the entire main corridor of the church, unlike last night, when he appeared from a side entrance near the Holy Table and watched the service from there.

Francis suffers from sciatica which causes pain in his legs and sometimes an exacerbation prevents him from standing for a long time.
