Poland has agreed to accept a new set of EU sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, but its consent was conditional and dependent on six points, the Polish news agency PAP reported, citing the country’s ambassador Andrej Santos.
Earlier, European diplomats said EU countries failed to agree on sanctions, even on the third day of negotiations, because Warsaw rejected Italy’s request for a looser embargo on Russian rubber imports.
Following Santos’ remarks, Sweden, which holds the EU presidency for the current semester, announced via Twitter that the tenth set of sanctions had been approved. “The EU stands united with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary,” the post said.
The measures include tighter restrictions on exports of dual-use goods as well as measures against entities that support war, spread propaganda or deliver drones used by Russia.
