The Holy Archdiocese of Australia announced the establishment of a new Orthodox Parish in the city of Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory of Australia.

The establishment of the new Parish will be celebrated in the name of Saint Savva the New in Kalymnos.

The Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia Mr. Nakarios had visited the community of Greek expatriates in Darwin in 2019, during the first months after assuming his duties, and had listened to their need and deep desire for the establishment of a second Orthodox Parish in the city.

Taking into account the large number of believers and the large scope of the area, he initiated the necessary actions in order to make possible the establishment of the new Parish and the future construction of a Holy Church.

The first priest of the new Parish will be Fr. Christos Tsoraklides from Adelaide, who will celebrate the first Holy Mass on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Mackillop Catholic College (285 Farrar Boulevard, Johnston).

Subsequent Holy Masses will also be held at Mackillop Catholic College until a permanent location for the new Parish in the Palmerston area is found.

The individual procedures for the establishment and completion of the new Parish will be monitored, on behalf of the Archbishop, Mr. Makariou, the Most Holy Bishop of Sinop, Mr. Silouanos, Archbishop of Adelaide.
