Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet made it clear whether he will run again in the country’s presidential elections scheduled for 2024, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Mr. Putin is not currently thinking about the upcoming election campaign, he is too busy with current issues, Mr. Peskov explained in statements published today by the Izvestia newspaper.

“We have not yet heard him say anything about whether he will run or not,” the Kremlin spokesman said, adding that “it is still a little early.”

Vladimir Putin, who ordered the Russian army to invade Ukraine in the early hours of February 24, 2022, was president of Russia from 2000 to 2008 and has been re-elected since 2012.

By virtue of a revision of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, he is legally entitled to run again next year. In the past, there have been occasions when Mr Putin announced his candidacy late, even though there was little doubt that he intended to hold on to power.
