Fenerbahce said on Tuesday that it was “unacceptable” for their fans not to be allowed to attend their Turkish Superlig away match against Kayserispor on Saturday 4 March.

“Fenerbahce fans will not be allowed to enter the match for security reasons”said the Kayseri Provincial Security Council, in an official statement cited by TRT News.

Fenerbahçe fans had protested against the Turkish government demanding its resignation – following the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that claimed the lives of more than 50,000 people – at the home match against Konyaspor last Saturday (18/2).

Fenerbahce says in a written statement that does not accept the decision of the security council and requests further clarification.

“We were surprised to learn that our fans will not be able to watch the match, according to the Kayseri Provincial Security Council. As Fenerbahce, there is no way we can accept this decision. It’s a strange decision that has nothing to do with sporting criteria.”the club said.

“There is no point in hindering our fans’ desire to support our team and punishing our club. We want to know for what reasons our fans were denied this right, in this sensitive period that is expected to be unifying, comprehensive and not divisive.” “Fener” concluded.

Fenerbahce is second in the league standings with 48 points, six behind Galatasaray.
