THE US Attorney General Merrick Garland called todaywar criminal» the founder and head of the Russian mercenary company Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhinspeaking to a Senate committee.

Wagner is “responsible for attacks on Ukrainians in the Donbass,” Garland said, emphasizing that it has recruited convicts it uses as “cannon fodder” on the battlefield. “It is unthinkable and we must do everything we can to stop them,” he continued, promising to help Ukrainian justice investigate the crimes.

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin recently announced the opening of an investigation against Prigozhin for “war crimes”.

61-year-old Yevgeny Prigozhin – known by the nickname “Putin’s chef” because the catering company he created works with the Kremlin – recently admitted that in 2014 he founded the Wagner Group and funded “troll factories” for online propaganda campaigns. He has been accused in the US of interfering in the 2016 presidential election.

Members of the US Congress are lobbying for Wagner to be officially designated as a “terrorist organization”. To this day it is treated as a “criminal” organization, such as e.g. the Italian or Japanese mafia.
