Reference to the request for reunification of Sculptors of the Parthenon said former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during an event in London, again taking a negative stance.

Speaking about freedom of expression and excessive political correctness, he condemned changes to words in books by the author Roald Dahl used as teaching material in British schools so that they would not be considered offensive, and applauded the fact that citizens can call him abusive when he goes for a run on the streets of London .

At this point he turned to the case of the Sculptures in the British Museum.

He said they should remain in London because the Museum “tells the story of the evolution of the human spirit”. Therefore, “if the Elginian marbles are returned to Greece, then there will be a huge gap in this narrative.”

Mr Johnson continued: “And above all, we will not have an answer for years to come to theoretical claims for restoration (monuments) from Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Nigeria, wherever they are housed treasures at Bloomsbury (ss: home of the British Museum). And suddenly in trying to please the world and politically correct thinking, you have deprived the world of one of its greatest treasures and cut some vital pieces from the great display of human progress.”
