The nuclear plant, which is the largest in Europe, has been under Russian control since March last year
Negotiations to return the Russian-held Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to Ukrainian control are not progressing, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said on Sunday.
“The situation is currently at an impasse”said uburst of Energy during the national telethon of Ukraine “United News”.
The nuclear plant, which is the largest in Europe, has been under Russian control since March last year.
“Our position, which we express on all international platforms, is that any negotiations on the station should be based on: first, the demilitarization of the plant, second, the withdrawal of (Russian nuclear company) Rosatom workers and third, Ukrainian personnel should be able to operate the nuclear facility without pressure,” the minister said.
“But in response to that, we received Putin’s invalid decree that the station is ‘federal property,'” the energy minister emphasized.
Last week, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, renewed his concern about the situation at the plant, citing delays in the rotation of his team of experts at the facility, an increased security presence on site and fighting nearby.
