More than 1,000 Iranian schoolgirls at various schools have been subjected to “mild poisoning” attacks since November
Iran’s supreme leader said today that the poisoning of Iranian schoolgirls in recent months was an “unforgivable” crime, as suspected poisonings spread across the country and hundreds of girls were hospitalized.
“The authorities should seriously deal with the issue of poisoning of schoolgirls. It is an unforgivable crime … the perpetrators of this crime should be severely punished,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was quoted as saying, according to state media.
More than 1,000 Iranian female students at various schools have been subjected to “mild poisoning” attacks since November, according to state media and officials. Some politicians say the schoolgirls may have been targeted by religious groups opposed to girls’ education.
The attacks, which began in November in the Shiite Muslim holy city of Qom in central Iran, have spread to at least 25 of Iran’s 31 provinces, prompting some parents to pull their children out of school and stage protests against the authorities. .
