Italy is concerned about the Gimbe’s prediction of a pandemic spread.
“The increase in cases does not lead to a corresponding increase in the number of patients admitted to hospitals, but with this upward rate of new infections, there is a risk that hospitals will be filled.
We can reach the two million positive citizens “, the president of the Gimbe foundation, Nino Kartabelota, emphasized characteristically.
“The government, with its partial measures, has not been able to curb the spread of the virus,” he told a radio station in Rome.
At the same time, he was in favor of the immediate return of a large percentage of citizens to distance work.
The head of the Gimbe Foundation stressed that in Italy, on average, 100,000 new cases are recorded per day, while 1,200 patients are admitted to hospitals every 24 hours and 120 to intensive care units. According to his analysis, “even if – with two million cases – only 1% of patients are admitted to the hospital, it means that 20,000 beds will be filled”.
The Gimbe Scientific Institute, which records the pandemic in the country every week, acknowledges that vaccines have reduced hospital admissions, but has called for even more face-to-face contact.
“If we decide to keep schools open, we should definitely close something else, because schools are undoubtedly a place with a significant percentage of infections,” concluded Nino Kartabelota.
