A large fire broke out today in a building belonging to the Border Guard Service of the FSB (the Russian Federal Security Service) in the city of Rostov in the south of the country, 120 km from the border with Ukraine.

Eyewitnesses reported that a large explosion was heard before the fire.

From the explosion and the fire there are reports of casualties, at least 3 injured.

Videos on social media show thick black smoke rising into the air in a residential area of ​​the city, while flames have engulfed the ground floor of a building.

Local authorities said emergency services were dispatched to the area, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

According to information from local media, the Russian authorities attributed the fire to a short circuit in the building’s electrical system.
