The military forces of Eastern Libya, close to the marshal Khalifa Haftarfound uranium canisters that had disappeared from a facility in Libya, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) revealed on Wednesday.
The head of the press service of the forces of N. Libya, general Khaled al-Majub, said in a statement that 10 barrels of uranium were found near the border with Chad, “less than 5 kilometers” from where they were stored. However, a video released separately by him shows workers measuring 18 barrels.
IAEA director-general Raphael Grossi said on Wednesday that about 2.5 tons of natural uranium (yellow cake) had disappeared from a warehouse in Libya and that his agency had launched investigations to ascertain the circumstances of the material’s disappearance.
