A mysterious, infectious one diseasehas already claimed the lives of five people in Tanzania and the country has asked medical experts to investigate the case.

The disease was identified in “seven people with symptomssuch as fever, vomiting, bleeding and kidney failure”, says the country’s Ministry of Health in a statement issued late yesterday, Thursday, evening.

Medical experts were dispatched to her area Cancerin the northwestern part of the country, bordering Uganda, to conduct research.

“Samples were taken from the patients and the dead to identify the origin and type of the disease,” said Health Ministry spokeswoman Tumaini Nagu, calling on the population to remain calm.

This event follows an epidemic of the Ebola virus in Uganda, which lasted almost four months and caused the death of 55 people. Uganda declared the end of the epidemic in January.

Last year Tanzania detected an outbreak of leptospirosis, also known as “mouse disease”, which killed three people in the Lidi district in the south-east of the country.

This bacterial disease, which is transmitted to humans by some mammals, is spread by water or food contaminated by the urine of infected animals.
