THE Boris Johnson today released his file of arguments for his statements about the “crown parties” of Downing Street.

Johnson, in today’s letter, admits that the House of Commons was misled by the positions he made in December 2021 in the House about his participation in the so-called corona parties. However, he maintains that his statements were made “in good faith and based on what I honestly knew and believed at the time”, as he typically underlines. At the same time, he notes that did not “deliberately or recklessly mislead Parliament” pointing out that he could never even fathom “how he could do such a thing”.

This letter is included in a 52-page file that he made public today and will submit it tomorrow, Wednesday, to the Immunity Committee of the House of Commons where he is expected to answer questions from its members.

The said seven-member Committee has been set up to examine whether the former British Prime Minister tried to “mislead” Parliament when asked about his participation in the Downing Street “crown parties” and claimed that he was “ignorant that these gatherings broke the rules”. imposed by his government.

The former Prime Minister of Britain has already called the investigation of the case by the Commission “biased”. And his defense file includes messages he received from relevant officials, who assured him that Downing Street meetings were exempt as they were a “workplace”.

Nevertheless, if the Commission determines that the former prime minister acted with malice, it will refer him to the House of Commons, which will decide on his sentence.

If the House imposes a sentence of 10 or more days of suspension from his parliamentary duties, then a by-election for his parliamentary seat will be called. “It will be an event that will affect his political career, as he has made no secret of his desire to return to the helm of the Conservative party,” analysts note. Otherwise, Boris Johnson is expected to make a total return to the forefront of the country’s political life, according to analysts’ estimates.
