Warning to China not to supply lethal weapons to Russia, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who said there was enough evidence that Moscow had likely requested them from China.

“We have no evidence that China is delivering lethal weapons to Russia, but we have seen some signs that this was a Russian request and that it is an issue that Beijing is looking into.”Jens Stoltenberg told reporters at a press conference in Brussels.

“China should not provide lethal aid to Russia. That would be supporting an illegal war.” Stoltenberg warned.

The NATO chief’s comments come as Chinese Xi Jinping is in Moscow and meets Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Stoltenberg, Xi’s three-day state visit to Moscow marks the closer ties that have developed between China and Russia in recent years.

“We see how China and Russia are getting closer and closer in the military field – joint exercises, joint patrols, naval and air patrols – in the economic field and also in the political and diplomatic field,” Stoltenberg said. “So the meeting in Moscow is part of this pattern of China and Russia working more and more closely and building a stronger and stronger partnership.” the NATO secretary general concluded.
