A police officer injured
A police officer was injured earlier today during a raid by the special forces of the police (SEK) on the premises of “Citizens of the Reich» (Reichsbürger) in Baden-Württemberg. The SEK raided 22 properties across Germany today, while investigations into the organization surrounding Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss, who planned an armed invasion of the Bundestag and eventual overthrow of the democratic state, are also underway in Switzerland.
THE Federal Prosecutor’s Office today ordered the second search of homes suspected of involvement in the organization. During a raid on a suspect’s apartment in Baden-Württemberg, the tenant shot and wounded a police officer. The police officer was transported to the hospital, where he is in a stable condition, while the perpetrator was immediately arrested. Five people have already been arrested as part of today’s federal investigation.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating the case for months, with the “suspicion of forming a terrorist organization“, while he considers that the goal set by the “Citizens of the Reich” themselves was to “transcend the existing state order in Germany”, even with the use of “military means and violence against representatives of the state”. According to BILD, the suspects still include active-duty police and military personnel.
During the first raid last December, in one of the largest investigations into the far-right in Germany, 25 men and women were arrested, including the alleged head of the organization, Heinrich XIII of Reuss. The organization was characterized by the government as “particularly dangerous terrorist“, with the Secretary of the Interior Nancy Feser speaking of an “abyss of terrorist threat”. A particular role in the radicalization of the “Citizens of the Reich” is estimated to have been played by conspiracy organization QAnonwhich in January 2021 incited the mob to storm the US Capitol.
