THE US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkenstated that China is watching ‘very carefully’ to see how Washington and the rest of the world react to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“If Russia were allowed to attack Ukraine with impunity, it would ‘open Pandora’s box’ for would-be aggressors and lead to a ‘conflict world'”Blinken pointed out today.

Speaking hours after Chinese President Xi Jinping returned to Beijing from an official visit to Russia, Blinken said: “The stakes in Ukraine go far beyond Ukraine… I think it has a profound impact on Asia, for example. “Russia’s invasion of its neighbor has led to discussions about how the war will affect China’s military thinking on Taiwan,” Blinken said, adding:

I think if China looks at this – and looks at it very carefully – it will learn lessons about how the world comes together, or not, to resist this aggression.”

China’s political and material support for Russia runs counter to Washington’s interests, Blinken stressed, but added that Washington does not yet have evidence that Beijing is providing Moscow with lethal weapons for the conflict in Ukraine.
