Norwegian police today announced the seizure of approximately 800 kilograms of cocaine, found in a shipment of fruit in Oslo.

“This is the biggest seizure ever made in Norway,” Oslo police chief Grete Lynn Metlind told a news conference. He added that the drug dealers were estimated to earn several hundred million Norwegian kroner (including tens of millions of euros) from the sale of the drugs.

The Norwegian police operation that led to the discovery and seizure of the cocaine took place this week in an undisclosed location in the capital. Remarkably, no arrests have been made.

Grete Lynn Metlind said that, according to the prevailing scenario, the cocaine was not intended for the “market” of Norway, a country of 5.4 million people.

A few days ago, German customs and police officers seized in the state of Brandenburg almost 1,200 kilograms of cocaine, which was hidden in a shipment of bananas from Latin America. They then informed their Norwegian counterparts that the investigation revealed that a similar shipment had been sent to their country.

The amount of cocaine seized in Oslo is twice as much as Norwegian authorities have seized cumulatively in the last five years.
