Two women were arrested in Iran while being attacked with yogurt for not covering their hair in public. In the video, two female customers in a store are approached by a man, who begins to speak strongly to them. The man then takes what appears to be a container of yogurt from a shelf and angrily throws it at their heads.

But Iran’s judiciary said the two women who were attacked… have been detained for showing their hair, which is illegal in the country! However, the attacker was also arrested for “disturbance of public order”.

The arrests were made after months of protests in the country with a request to end the mandatory headscarf. The video shows the women in the store, waiting to be served by a member of staff. A man, who appears to be a passerby, sees them and enters the store. After talking to them, he attacks them by throwing yogurt. The shopkeeper then kicks the offender out of the shop.

Arrest warrants were issued and the three were subsequently arrested, the judicial Mizan news agency reported. He added that “necessary recommendations” have been issued to the shop owner to ensure compliance with the law.

Iranian women are not allowed not to wear the hijab in public. But anger and disillusionment with the law have led to fierce conflicts in Iranian society.

Protests spread across the Islamic Republic in September following her death Mahsa Amini, of a 22-year-old girl arrested by morality police in Tehran for allegedly wearing her hijab “inappropriately”. Thousands of people have been arrested and four protesters executed since December. But authorities show no signs of backing down.
