London, Thanasis Gavos
The actual coronavirus carriers in the United Kingdom are estimated at 3,739 million based on the latest data from the tens of thousands of regular sampling on behalf of the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The report for the last week of 2020 is higher than the 3.2 million infections estimated in the previous period.
In England it is estimated that there is one body per 15 inhabitants, in Scotland and Wales one in 20 and in Northern Ireland one in 25.
The rate of infections in the population is increasing in all regions of England except London, although the capital still has the highest rate of carriers with 8.8% of the total population.
The age category with the highest rate of infections is 12-24 years. 8.3% of residents of these ages are considered to be infected. Followed by 7.8% citizens aged 25-34 and children 2-6 years with 7.7%.
However, in the last week of 2020, those aged 50-69 and those over 70 recorded a relatively faster growth rate.
At the same time, the NHS England reported that 37% of coronavirus carriers were admitted to hospital on Tuesday for another reason, not because of the severity of Covid symptoms.
63% of patients admitted primarily for coronavirus are less than 67% from the previous Tuesday. In the previous two weeks, this percentage was even higher, reaching 74% of all Covid institutions.
