Because of the period more snake sightings are expected in inhabited areas, the owner of the Herpetological Center of Cyprus, Yiannis Angelis, reported in Mesimeri and Kati, on the Cypriot channel Sigma.

He explained that these appearances will be increased due to the ups and downs of the weather. “With climate change everything is affected, mating seasons and temperatures change.” He added that the mating season normally starts from March to June. He denied that during this period the snakes become more aggressive, however there are more males moving around in search of female snakes. Also, due to their declining population, males are forced to move longer distances to find a mate.

Mr. Aggeli presented during the show two species of snakes, a therc, which he captured in a hen house, and a droop.

In case we encounter a snake, suggested that we slowly move away in the opposite direction. Under no circumstances do we attempt to kill or capture them. In the event of a bite, we have two to eight hours to get to the hospital and do absolutely nothing, such as tearing it open or trying to inhale the poison.

He pointed out that when a fina bites someone it leaves a mark or two. Other snakes on the other hand, leave marks from the upper and lower jaw.
