Olympiacos missed the chance in Belgrade

The Piraeus did 19 errors in Belgrade, knowing defeat 87-79 from the already blocked Red Star.

In the 23-10 the team of Giorgos Bartzokas retreated, while on the other hand the Serbs went to 16-17.

First scorer o Vezenkov with 16 points and 8 rebounds, and a good performance from Walkup with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

A leader for his team Dusko Ivanovic was the Campacho with 20 points and 8 assists, while outstanding was Hollandwho finished the match with 17 points, while in the season he averages 3.2 points!

The match

Olympiacos started with Fal, Vezenkov, Papanikolaou, Kanan and Walkap. Excellent start from the “red and white” of Piraeus, who had an early lead and thanks to the good circulation and the orexatus Walkap and Vezenkov, escaped to +7 (8-15), in the 4th minute. Vildosa aggressively kept Red Star, but with Kanan and Papanikolaou entering the… dance outside the 6.75m, the difference went to +11 (17-28), at 7′. However, in the following minutes the Piraeus made mistakes, with Campacho and Petrusev reacting and reducing the difference (26-30) at the end of the first period.

The tempo of the match was lower at the beginning of the second quarter, but through its defense, Olympiacos maintained +5 (33-38), until 15′. However, then Piraeus made easy mistakes, completely losing their rhythm on both sides of the floor. Thus, Red Star reacted and by making individual scores of 10-1 with Mitrovic as the protagonist, went to +4 (43-39), in the 18th minute. Barzoka’s team’s response came with the return of Walkup, Papanikolaou and Fal to the court and with a 6-0 run, they took the lead again (43-45) at 19′. With Holland’s shots, the Serbians equalized, but with a McKissick basket in the final breath, the guests went to the locker room in front (45-47).

Bad start from Olympiakos in the second half, with many mistakes and tragic choices in the attack, with Red Star on the other hand coming in… furious and with Vildosa and Campacho making a 9-0 run, for +7 (54-47) , at 24′. In the next two minutes, the Piraeus pulled out some defenses, but managed just three points with Slukas (54-50). Then, the tempo of the match picked up with Petrusev and Mitrovic sending the hosts even to +9 (63-54), at 29′. In the last minute, Barzoka’s players reacted and with Papanikolaou and Vezenkov they lost the difference (65-59) at the end of the third period.

Vezenkov and McKissick offensively kept Olympiakos in the fourth quarter, but in defense Barzoka’s players could not stop the “hot” Holland, who sent Red Star to +9 (80-71), in the 34th minute. From that point on, the image of the game did not change. The Serbs were in complete control, after the Piraeus made mistakes and were bad defensively and so in the end they lost with a score of 87-79.
