The first collision between Russian and British ships after the Cold War is believed to have taken place in late 2020, after the Royal Navy officially confirmed that one of its warships had collided with a Russian submarine in the North Atlantic.

“HMS Northumberland” seems to have located the Russian submarine and for this reason had activated the sonar trailer in order to closely monitor the movements of the Russians.

The collision, which was recorded by a Channel 5 television crew, caused significant damage to the HMS Northumberland sonar device, which was located along the hull of the Russian submarine, forcing the British warship to cancel its mission and return to base. for repairs.
In the video from the moment of the collision, a member of the crew is heard shouting, “what the fuck did I just hit?”.
It is believed that the Russian submarine knew that HMS Northumberland was there, but Navy sources said the collision must have been an accident.
