A tourist was killed and five others were injured, last night, in Tel Aviv in a “terrorist attack” – as described by the police – with a car.

The driver of the car was “overpowered” by officers when he tried to draw a gun, a security spokesman said. He is an Israeli Arab from the city of Kafr Kasem, according to the same source.

The car swerved and entered a busy cycle path near the beach.

In a Reuters video, a white car can be seen overturned on the grass of the park. The police cordoned off the area, where ambulances rushed to transport the injured to a hospital.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed via Twitter that the victim is Italian, as are likely those injured in this “brazen attack”.

In a statement issued a short time later by the Italian government, it is emphasized that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her deep sorrow for the death of the Italian Alessandro Parini in the terrorist attack that took place in Tel Aviv.

The Italian Prime Minister – as emphasized in the announcement – stands by the family of the deceased and the injured, while expressing her solidarity with the State of Israel.

It was the second deadly attack in a matter of hours, after two sisters were earlier killed when the car they were traveling in came under fire in the occupied West Bank.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the police to “mobilize all reserve border guards” and the Israeli army to “mobilize additional forces to deal with terrorist attacks.”
