Russian troops are digging a colossal fortification project, visible from space, as they prepare for a Ukrainian counterattack, the Ukrainian Journalistic Research Center reports, presenting related satellite images.

According to the Ukrainian Journalistic Research Center, the “giant trench”, more than 70 kilometers long so far, located in Zaporizhia in southeastern Ukraine.

It is, in fact, more than 80 kilometers behind Russian linessuggesting Moscow’s fear of a retreat.

The vast ‘scar’ on the countryside – seen from space – comes as Vladimir Putin appears gravely concerned that he may lose the strategically important region after it is illegally annexed by the Russian Federation.

Zaporizhia

The extreme point of the Russian fortification in the west, revealed by images from the Sentinel-2 satellite, is located on the outskirts of the village of Semenivka, about 10 kilometers from the center of Melitopolis. In the east, it reaches the village of Marinivka in Primorsky District.

Defensive fortification includes trenches and anti-tank fortifications.

Digging the trench began from two directions in September 2022 – with the Russians using laborers from Kyrgyzstan, according to reports. Some complained that they had not been paid properly.
