“We have just discovered the sixth victim,” district attorney Carlin Bouisset told AFP. It is “probably” the partner of the 39-year-old woman who was found dead last night, a man born in 1981, the judge added. The couple lived in a suburb of Lyon, according to the same source.
The avalanche occurred yesterday morning on the Armanset glacier, high up in the town of Condamine-Monzois, and surprised “three groups of skiers”, each of whom was “flanked by one or two mountain guides”, the prosecution said.
The dead include two guides from the Saint-Gerves (Haute-Savoie) mountain guide company, born in 1974 and 1984, the National Union of Mountain Guides said in a statement.
The identities of the other victims have not been released.
