The number of confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 has reached 34,954 in the last 24 hours, the National Institute of Public Health (RIVM) announced in the Netherlands. The number of infections was increased by 10,282 compared to the previous count
The rolling average of cases detected on a 24-hour basis in the previous seven days increased by 63%, to 21,487.
The increase in cases was recorded, although the Netherlands is currently in a lockdown, which is attributed to the end-of-year festivities and the spread of the more contagious Omicron variant.
However, the increase in infections is not reflected, at least for the time being, in hospitals. The number of patients with COVID-19 being treated fell to 1,516 yesterday (-25 in 24 hours), as did the number of patients who had to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), which dropped to 409 (-10).
There were 24 deaths of patients due to complications of COVID-19. Over the past seven days, the rolling average of deaths recorded daily fell to 20, from 38 last week, according to the institute.
