The Italian government, during today’s cabinet meeting, decided to declare a six-month state of emergency to deal with immigrants and refugees.

At the same time, five million euros were allocated to address the issue. “We all accepted the proposal of the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piandendozzi, with the awareness that this is a serious phenomenon, which shows a huge increase, even by a rate of 300%,” said the Italian minister responsible for Civil Protection and sea, Nello Mouzoumetsi.

As the Italian press writes, with the state of emergency, the various bureaucratic procedures will be reduced, with particular reference to the residence centers for immigrants and refugees, but also to the acceleration of the identification procedures, and the procedures concerning repatriations.

At the same time, as Meloni government sources announced, there will be substantial participation in various initiatives of the Civil Protection and the Italian Red Cross.
