This spring it is widely expected that there will be a Ukrainian counterattack against Russian forces
US intelligence agencies are skeptical of the Ukrainian counterattack, which could only make “small territorial gains” against Russian forces, according to a classified document cited by the Washington Post.
This text was recently leaked online, along with many other classified documents. One of them referred generally to the situation prevailing on the Ukrainian fronts at the beginning of March, others referred to specific fronts, such as that of Bakhmut, or to the anti-aircraft forces of Kiev.
This spring it is widely expected that there will be a Ukrainian counterattack against Russian forces. Ukraine asserts that it has trained units and stockpiled ammunition, trying on the one hand to economize its own forces at the front and at the same time exhaust those of the Russians. It also received tanks and long-range missiles from its Western allies.
However, the classified document cited by the Washington Post states that “(the Ukrainians’) continuing deficiencies in (the army’s) training and ammunition stocks will likely hamper any progress and exacerbate casualties during the offensive.”
Another document claims that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered the production of 40,000 rockets to be delivered to Russia and asked those responsible to keep this plan secret “to avoid problems with the West,” the same newspaper said, in separate article. The US denied this information, clarifying that there is no indication that such a plan was implemented.
“Egypt is a close partner and we talk regularly with its leadership on various regional and international issues,” a senior US official said.
In recent days, photos of the documents in question have appeared on Twitter, Telegram, Discord and other social media platforms. Some may have been circulating online for weeks. The Pentagon assessed on Monday that this leak could constitute a “very serious” threat to US national security.
Many of these documents are no longer available on the websites where they first appeared, and US authorities are trying to delete them all.
