Warning Salts: No alarm ending – Omicron will keep us busy for a long time

“The” Omicron “mutation will occupy us for a long time to come. “We are not in a position to sound the alarm about our health care system,” said Chancellor Olaf Solz, speaking after a meeting with state prime ministers announcing new pandemic measures.

“What is needed now is a further restriction of personal contacts,” said Mr. Soltz, reiterating that “the best protection against Omicron remains the booster vaccine”, while the use of an FFP-2 mask is a useful means of protection. The Chancellor thanked the citizens for observing the measures during the holidays and warned that the situation in Germany may be better today compared to other European countries, but a new increase in cases is expected soon. “It is now necessary to take all possible measures,” he added.

Referring to the decision to access catering establishments only with a vaccination or disease certificate in combination with a negative test and exemption only for those who have been vaccinated and with the booster dose, Mr Solz spoke of a “strict but necessary” rule, which “will helps us to move forward better and to be able to control cases more effectively than we have done so far. “

According to tonight’s decisions, the length of stay of the cases in quarantine is shortened and simplified. Those who have come into contact with the case are excluded from quarantine if they have also completed the booster vaccination, have recently been vaccinated twice or have recently recovered. For everyone else, isolation or quarantine will generally end after ten days, unless it is shortened to seven days by passing a negative test. Staff in hospitals, nursing homes and care facilities can be quarantined after five days with a mandatory PCR examination, as long as there are no symptoms for at least 48 hours.

At tonight’s conference, it was also decided not to relax the measures that had been tightened shortly before Christmas regarding the rallies. The vaccinated or those who have recovered can be in a circle of up to ten people, not counting children under 14 years old. For meetings attended by even one person who has not been vaccinated or has recovered, only a maximum of two people from another household can be present at the private meetings, again excluding children.

Regarding the introduction of compulsory vaccination, the federation and the states widely support the plan, Mr. Solz pointed out and added that the relevant discussion will begin very soon. It would be good at the end of the discussion to have the mandatory general vaccination, he noted.
