Two people were killed and 10 others injured, some in critical condition, when a gas cylinder exploded during a fire caused by fireworks at a political rally in the southern Indian state of Telangana.

The accident occurred in the community of Chimalapadu, 274 kilometers east of Hyderabad, the capital of this state.

According to the police, some of the firecrackers with which the residents greeted a BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) MP fell on the roof of a hut and started a fire followed shortly by a gas cylinder explosion.

“Fireworks fell on a hut located 200 meters from the gathering place, causing a fire to break out. BRS members and police rushed to extinguish the fire when a gas cylinder exploded inside the hut. (…) Two people were killed and another 10 were injured,” a police spokesman said.
