Seeks $500m in damages from ex-lawyer – Trump under investigation for handling classified documents after leaving office in 2021
New Trump leak in the USA. Many witnesses were asked if the former US president Donald Trump he showed them a map containing classified information and took it with him when he left the White House, according to the New York Times.
It is not clear what this map depicted, beyond “sensitive information”, the newspaper writes, citing four sources with knowledge of the case.
Trump is being investigated by the Justice Department over his handling of classified documents after he leaves the presidency in 2021. The probes focus mainly on whether he kept boxes of sensitive information at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
FBI agents seized thousands of government records, some marked “top secret,” from that home last August. The investigation is one of two being conducted for the former president by special counsel Jack Smith.
Trump, who was indicted in late March in the Stormy Daniels case in New York, maintains that the investigations are politically motivated.
Today on Wednesday, it became known that the former president sued his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, asking him for damages of more than 500 million dollars, for the case for which he is being prosecuted in New York.
Cohen had testified before a Manhattan grand jury, which later indicted Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business documents. In his lawsuit, Trump accuses Cohen of violating attorney-client privilege by disclosing “confidential” information and “spreading false information.”
Cohen was the one who paid before the 2016 presidential election 130,000 dollars in order to buy the silence of porn star Stormy Daniels, who claimed she had an affair with Trump ten years earlier.
