Michalis Michael, who was just yesterday appointed by the President as a member of the Public Service Commission, submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, through a letter.

The Government Spokesman, Constantinos Letympiotis, stated to KYPE that the President accepted the resignation and will proceed as soon as possible with the appointment of another person.

It is noted that after the announcement of the appointment of Mr. Michael as a member of the EDY, which implies an evaluation on his part for appointments of other persons in public services, publications and comments appeared on social media referring to the authenticity of his academic qualifications and a possible relationship them with university institutions abroad.

At the same time, the President, after the noise of the last 24 hours, asked to check the degrees for which Mr. Michael is said to be the holder.

Mr. Michael’s letter:

“Honorable Mr. President, With this letter I would like to submit my resignation as a member of the Public Service Commission. The reasons for my resignation are purely out of respect for your person and with the ultimate goal of your political protection. So many non-existent and untrue things have been written against me, which affect my professional qualifications and my professional career. Unfortunately, they leave me no choice but to resign. I reserve all my legal rights. Be sure that very soon I will call a press conference with the ultimate aim of restoring the truth to my person and at the same time justifying your choice. I would like to wish you a happy Resurrection and good continuation in the difficult work you are doing.

Yours sincerely,

Michalakis Michael”.

In a statement, AKEL states:

“The choice of Mr. Michalakis Michael for the position of a member of the Public Service Commission is developing into a “Giannaki Giannaki” type fiasco. The responsibility of President Christodoulidis who chose him is enormous. Despite his pre-election promises to the contrary, the criteria and procedures by which Mr. Christodoulidis chooses people leave him seriously exposed. Mr. Christodoulidis continues to fall below the bar he set during the pre-election period.”
