US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said today that he is deeply concerned about reports of escalating violence between the Sudanese armed forces and the main paramilitary organization of the RSF, while calling for an immediate end to hostilities.

“We are in contact with our embassy team in Khartoum, everyone is currently accounted for,” Blinken said in a tweet. “We urge all parties involved to immediately cease violence and avoid further escalation of hostilities or mobilization of forces, but to continue talks to resolve the important issues“.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced today that they are in control of the presidential palace, the residence of army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the international airport in Khartoum in an attempted coup.
