In the last twenty-four hours, 155,659 cases of coronavirus and 157 deaths have been recorded in Italy. A total of 993,201 tests were performed, 15.7% of which were positive. There are 1,595 patients with covid – 19 in the intensive care units of the country, while 15,647 are treated in simple beds. The number of people currently positive for the virus in Italy is 1,943,979.
The pandemic commissioner, General Francesco Filiuolo, however, wanted to stress that the situation had improved since January 2021. in hospital wards. “It’s a result of the protection that the vaccines offer, which lasts for at least four months,” Filiuolo said. Schools are set to reopen in Italy tomorrow after the Christmas holidays. The only exceptions are Sicily – with a three-day postponement – and the greater Naples area, which has announced that it will keep high schools closed until the end of the month. The government of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, however, announced that it would appeal against this decision.
Many high school students insist that cases have multiplied and that a relatively broad recourse to distance education will be needed. According to the Italian high school teachers, the total absences may reach 10% of the educational and administrative staff tomorrow.
“It’s a matter of principle, our schools will reopen tomorrow. We will all face any absences together with a more general, constructive will. “What I ask of the families, of the parents is to show the maximum possible solidarity and to vaccinate their children,” Education Minister Patricio Bianchi told Rai TV.
