Oliver Dowden was chosen by the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as his deputy after the morning resignation of Dominic Raab.

Mr. Dowden has until now held the role of minister in addition to being prime minister, while among other things he has served as minister of culture.

The second position of Mr. Raab in the British government, that of the Minister of Justice, is occupied by Alex Chalk.

The resignation from the government came after the conclusion of an independent inquiry by lawyer Adam Tolley into multiple complaints against Mr Raab by subordinates that they had been intimidated by the minister.

According to the 47-page finding, Mr Raab had displayed “unreasonably and persistently aggressive behaviour” during a meeting as foreign minister. It is indicative of “abuse” of power in a way that “undermines or humiliates”.

The second substantiated complaint found concerns a “threatening” report by him that had an impact on a subordinate.

In his resignation letter, Mr. Raab said that the conclusion is incorrect and that the bar for ‘bullying’ is set too low, leaving government officials exposed. In an article by Telegraphmoreover, characterizes the case against him as “Kafkaesque”.
